There is wisdom in the silence
When you don’t rush to fill the void
When you sit and just be
And though your brain
Fabricates every potential,
Every missed connection into poetry
Coloring in every smile, glance, and gaze
With the weight of constellations
You put your faith in these stories,
Fabricating their presence into meteors
Mistaking their velocity as your center
Not realizing that shooting stars only last a second
Just because we thought
Their gravitational pull
Nourishes us
Feeds our humanity
Affirms our specialness
Doesn’t make it astronomy
The naked eye makes planets and playgrounds
Out of an abyss of black holes
When the Earth orbits the sun
It does so perfectly on command
An exact science we take for granted
Ground your presence
Like the Earth
Solid and centered
And receive the natural gifts of the cosmos
Release all fear and faith in homespun Gods
It’s easy to admire the stars
When in hindsight time and distance makes
Everything appear brighter
Beware of the poets that let words spill out flippantly
And honor the poetry that you and the Universe craft so carefully
